A a rather stout perennial with a single flowering stem 20-60 cm tall, growing erect from a firm, sub-globular tuber and a second withered one.

Fleurs : verdâtres rayées et ponctuées de pourpre, grandes, à odeur de bouc, en épi ample, long, un peu lâche : bractées linéaires, dépassant l'ovaire ; divisions extérieures du périanthe ovales-obtuses, toutes conniventes en casque; labelle pendant, long de 3-6 cm, à 3 lanières linéaires tordues en spirale, la moyenne 3-4 fois plus longue que les latérales; éperon de 2-3 mm, 3-4 fois plus court que l'ovaire rétinacles soudés, bursicule à 1 loge.
Floraison France : Mai-juillet.
Flowers: 6-8 mm diam., in a rather long and dense, cylindrical raceme subtended by linear bracts about as long as ovary; outer perianth lobes pale green and spotted with purple, ovate-obtuse, cohering at base; inner linear, adhering to the outer; lip 30-50 mm long, linear, curled, with a bi-lobed tip and a long, linear, toothed, lateral lobe, white with purple spots.
